Alex Mashinsky has served as director since April 2014 and Interim Chief Executive Officer since June 2014. Mr. Mashinsky has served as Managing Partner of Governing Dynamics since 2004. Governing Dynamics is an early stage investment and development company. Between May and December 2013, Mr. Mashinsky served on the board of directors of Tellabs, a publicly traded telecommunications company, until it was acquired in December 2013. In 2004, Mr. Mashinsky founded Transit Wireless, a wireless distributed antenna systems company that provided wireless data coverage to 300 of New York City's subway stations. Between 1995 and 2003, Mr. Mashinsky founded and operated companies in the information technology sector, including Arbinet. Mr. Mashinsky attended Tel Aviv University and Israel Open University.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Michael Newman has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since September 2014. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Newman, served in senior executive level positions at Websense, Inc. a global leader of advanced IT security solutions, over an eleven-year span from 2002 to 2013. From 2011 to 2013, he served as Chief Financial Officer, and from 2002-2011 he served in a variety of capacities, including General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer. At Websense, Mr. Newman was responsible for Accounting, Finance, Tax, Human Resources, Legal, IT, Facilities, and Sales Operations. Prior to his time with Websense, Mr. Newman handled securities and corporate development matters in the legal department for Gateway, Inc., a publicly-traded computer manufacturer. Mr. Newman holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University.
Chief Technology Officer
Stephen Sek is a veteran in wireless telecom industry having been involved in carving the evolution of various generations of wireless technologies as steering committee member, board of director, technical advisor and contributor to various worldwide standards and regulatory bodies. Mr. Sek has served as our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since 2015. Prior to his appointment as CTO, Mr. Sek served as Vice President of Global Product, Vice President of Corporate R&D, and Senior Technical Advisor to the CEO from 2013-2015. He previously served as our General Manager, and held other senior positions from 2000 through 2006. Mr. Sek began his career at Motorola where he served in various senior research, engineering and managerial positions for the PCS Advanced Technology Labs, System Technology and Wireless Data Division over a 10-year span from 1990 to 2000 having pioneered some of the industry-firsts wireless packet data modem and PC cards that helped proliferate today’s mobile broadband industry. He spearheaded several Motorola corporate wide initiatives including 5Nines for all wireless devices, and inaugurated the wireless data system technology lab. From 2006 through 2013 he served as Chief Technology Officer for Axesstel, Inc., and pioneered new product categories in WLL/Fixed mobile converged devices with Orange and Telefonica, and Home Phone Connect with Verizon Wireless and Sprint. Mr. Sek holds a Masters of Science from University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science from Boston University.
Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing
John Carney has served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing since 2015. Mr. Carney is a veteran in the wireless industry, having held executive positions at Google, Inc., Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile. Prior to Novatel Wireless, Mr. Carney was recruited by Google to help lead the turnaround of Motorola Mobility, achieving 130% sales growth from 2013 to 2014. Before his time at Google, Mr. Carney served as senior vice president of consumer marketing for Sprint Nextel known for re-positioning the Sprint brand through successful disruptive campaigns such as "Truly Unlimited," and "Any Mobile, Anytime." Mr. Carney also served as senior vice president of sales at T-Mobile creating game-changing sales strategies that propelled T-Mobile into a leadership position by more than tripling the wireless carrier's subscriber base. With experience in all areas of the wireless space, Mr. Carney also served as president and CEO of Affinity Mobile, LLC., leading the launch of the company as a national wireless service provider (MVNO) targeting the under-banked prepaid market in the US. Mr. Carney holds a MBA from Northwestern University's, Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Illinois.
